GCSE Catering gives students the opportunity to learn about the catering industry, develop their practical catering skills and learn how to make a wide variety of food products. There are four main areas of study: 1. The Catering Industry 2. Nutrition and Menu Planning 3. Food Preparation 4. Technological Developments Assessment Controlled Assessment – 60% Students will be set a practical task. In Year 10, students make four suitable products. In Year 11, students make an appropriate two-course meal. Students are then assessed on the following: a) Assessment and Planning b) Production c) Evaluation Written exam – 40% at the end of Year 11, Students cannot take both GCSE Catering and GCSE Food and Nutrition as the courses are too similar.
