We have recently introduced a new style GCSE, called OCR Nationals.
These are work related qualifications which will provide learners with a taste
of the vocational area. The work is awarded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction
level.
Pass = C Grade
Merit = B Grade
Distinction = A/A* Grade
(OCR Nationals Level 2 – GCSE: 100% Coursework)
One of the main attractions is that there are no exams, and learners can work at a
pace that suits them and monitor their progress online.
The GCSE has been started in Year 9, working on Unit 1: ICT Skills for Business.
Topics within this unit include:
File Management
E-mail
Business Presentations
Business Documents
Spreadsheets
Databases
In Year 10, students will take a second unit of work in which they create computer
graphics for websites.
For those students who wish to take ICT onto the next level, there is the option of
converting a single GCSE into a double. This will be available for one session after
school per week over the course of Years 10 and 11.
A further two units will be available for study in the classes: Flash Animation and
Spreadsheet Development.
