TSAS Sixth Form?

Oct 2, 2008 by J Eccleston

Whether you are an existing Thorpe St Andrew School student or a student at another establishment you will be very welcome to join the Sixth Form at Thorpe St Andrew School. We offer a broad curriculum with a wide range of courses in order to meet your needs.

At Advanced Level, we have built on our already substantial list of subjects, adding a number of new courses to provide an impressive choice for you to select from.

Our BTEC vocational courses demonstrate the breadth we are now able to offer at this level. Such courses are designed to provide you with a range of specialisms, alongside opportunities to take part in Student Apprenticeships, Work Placements and other options, as specified in the relevant pages of this handbook.

In addition, we offer GCSE courses and a range of enrichment opportunities available to all, from industry-recognised ICT courses to Community Sports Leader Awards.

We have a very successful Sixth Form with students achieving excellent results. In 2006, the A2 results meant that the school was ranked the top performing Sixth Form in Norfolk, using value added indicators, and AS Level results were the best in the Schools history.

Our Ofsted report confirmed that we achieve very pleasing results and that our Sixth Form students receive excellent opportunities. We have committed and experienced staff as well as very good facilities, including two buildings specifically for Sixth Form use, excellent resources and good access to ICT.

I enjoy being given the responsibility to help younger students in the main school. Sixth Form charity events are a fun way to help others.

As well as helping you to reach your highest potential in subject areas, we also want to offer you the opportunity to broaden your experiences by following an interesting enrichment and community service programme. All students are expected to participate in these areas in order to help them contribute fully to the whole life of the school.

The help and support of the teachers, as they treat you as individuals.
You are given independence and the relationship with teachers is very good!
The teacher support is excellent; you are always able to ask for help and are given it. You are treated more like an adult; you have your own independence.

You will also be expected to work hard, to show dedication and to achieve success. You will work in partnership with many others with your teachers to ensure you are reaching your targets; with your peer group in sharing your experiences and with your local community. Teachers will also work closely with your parents to help you achieve success in all that you do. At the end of your time at Thorpe St Andrew Sixth Form you will have developed many new skills and interests which will help you prepare for your future.

Thorpe St Andrew Sixth Form is open to all. However, the courses you are offered will depend on your GCSE grades. If you are not currently a member of Thorpe St Andrew School and are interested in our Sixth Form courses, please contact a member of our Sixth Form team, who will be happy to answer any further questions you have. I hope that you will be interested in joining Thorpe St Andrew Sixth Form where we have high expectations with regard to work ethos.

Please make the most of the opportunities to find out more about life in our Sixth Form and do ask about anything you are unsure of. It would be helpful for you to attend our Sixth Form Open Evening on Tuesday 30 October 2007. I look forward to the chance of welcoming you the Thorpe St Andrew Sixth Form in September 2008.
